FM Symphony: Illuminating the Soul
November 18 @ 7:00 pm$14 - $38
The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, directed by Christopher Zimmerman, drew inspiration for its November concert from the aesthetic beauty and ecumenical spirit of The Saint John’s Bible project. The music of the concert gestures to both the Old and New Testaments as well as pure, wordless spiritual expression. Israeli-born cellist Inbal Sebev will be featured on two pieces in the first half of the concert, “Ave Maria” by Anton Bruch and “Schelomo (Solomon)” by Ernest Bloch. The second half of the program will showcase the orchestra in the spectacular yet moving tone poem “Death and Transfiguration” by Richard Strauss, followed by “Rainbow Body,” a shimmering piece by contemporary composer Christopher Theofanidis, who was inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist idea of the “rainbow body” wherein the body of an enlightened being is absorbed back into the universe upon his or her death. The integration of music and art will add an intriguing element to this concert.
