Fun gratitude practice:
Keep a list of people that said you couldn’t do something and send them thank you letters when you do it. 🤝
Happy Spring! I know we are knee deep in snow with more to come but I brought my geraniums up from the basement this morning to start them regrowing and a hyacinth is blooming on my desk so I am faking my own good and growing time. We just returned from a visit to Mom and it was good to be with her and friends, sharing, caring, laughing and enjoying good food and company. It felt like a good way to continue a good start to 2023. Classes start next week with a new class for artful enthusiasts with a Celtic theme. It is also a return to me collaborating with Moorhead Community Ed so do book my classes with them and support local art and art education. I am doing 3 classes this spring and they are all new to my teaching portfolio – new season, new classes! Yes, they are all recorded and on Zoom. Celtic Colours – Sketch and paint Celtic knots, the delightful zoomorphic animals found in Celtic manuscripts and recreate portions of manuscripts as we journey through a Celtic history of art, learning about the tools, materials, and methods used, and then explore knotted borders, creatures with attitude and the mystifying and magical illuminations created so long ago and still loved today. All skill levels and lots of fun with paint, pencils and pens. Ronde Calligraphy – Round luscious letters with elegant thin lines and swooping capitals make this a unique hand to learn. Good for all skill levels and delightful for certificates, envelopes, pointed pen, and much more. Dragons in Watercolor – Work and play in watercolor learning techniques for scales, knobbly feet and shiny bodies as we paint wings and things with magical mystical beasts. Good for all skill levels and different and fun and the next class in June might be fairies, building on skills and techniques we learn in this class. Upcoming Classes So what is coming up? I am looking at a summer weekend retreat – finding a venue with accomodation, cooking and a suitable classroom is proving more challenging than I would have thought but I am not giving up. March 18 I am teaching a free workshop on the Uncial used in the Gospel of Cuthbert for the Colleagues of Calligraphy in Minneapolis. We are going to try to offer a Zoom option for this free offering so do register. In the image above you get a flavor of my Celtic Colours Class as well as this class – it is March! May 3 we will start gathering at my house to do art on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6pm. This is an opportunity to gather in person and we will have a small project to all work on. This month we are going to make a ChainLink Stitch book. We will still have a laptop with Zoom on it for those out of town to continue joining in. It is a good gathering and learning opportunity. $10 for the evening. Book on my website. Trading cards continue to be a hit of small bite sized art jewels. So keep your brushes and pens wet with a monthly small project to swop. Don’t you love some of the trades from February in the picture at the top? Our summer student in person gathering will be July 15 with a South African braai here for a Friends of the Studio Party for all of you who have supported Tribal Knowledge over the last year with your participation in classes, events, and creative endeavours! I will provide dinner and drinks – be prepared to eat South African food. Partners are welcome. And for those that participate in our trading card exchange – and it should be ALL of YOU, we will do an inperson exchange that night so those who will not be present, please get your cards in the mail to me by the 7th of July. So be kind to yourself and be creative. Find any opportunity to connect with others through art. I look forward to seeing you online, in my home and in the Zoom classroom! Be well! |
